Motorcycle Tour of Sicily
Total
Sicily
Dates:
1 - 9 May 2021
This
9 day motorcycle tour offers 7 full riding days (Saturday to Sunday) around this
magnificent Island. Our start and finishing point is Rome. We take
a two way cruise-ferry overnight trips from Napoli to Palermo
and back on Saturdays. We run the ride of this magnificent
island anti-clockwise and take our time to explore the beauty of
this Mediterranean island. So much natural and historical beauty
is combined with what is probably the finest Italian cuisine. We
also ride the highest active volcano in Europe with its amazing
roads and views, witnessing not only the incredible unstoppable
power of nature, but also the tenacity of the inhabitants which
keep living there.
In 2021 we will be running the tour in May, the best time to be
in Sicily. It will be warm and everything will be in flower. For
the brave ones you can even imagine to take a dip in the still
fairly cold sea.

day by day info and join us in this amazing ride.

Day 1: Meet Francesco and our second guide at the CIMT
HQ in Rome, finalize the paperwork, and prepare your rental bike for
departure. Our ferry departs at 8pm from Napoli and we need to
be there by latest 6pm. Sadly, it will be mostly Autostrada to
Napoli in the afternoon. 230km with 2 stops will take us 3/4
hours. We need to leave by latest 2pm. Sailing will be at 8pm
and we shall have the welcome dinner at the "a la carte
restaurant" on board. Our tour includes double or single cabins
with sea view and private bathrooms. We'll be docking in Palermo
at 7am on Sunday morning. Perfect hour to leave Palermo on our
bikes.

Day
2: We exit Palermo on a Sunday morning with no traffic
and head to Monreale for the visit to its magnificent cathedral.
After the visit we cut through the mountains and reach the very
beautiful Natural Reserve of the Zingaro by San Vito lo Capo. This
is where we will have lunch by the beach (see above) before riding
up to the medieval town
of Erice on the giant hill overlooking the Egadi islands and the
salt plants of Trapani and Mozia. We then ride back down the
twisty road and ride through the salt plants to reach Marsala for
the night. Here we have the opportunity to visit a superb winery
and taste their wines with dinner.

Day
3: We leave Marsala and head inland. We ride
across the Belice valley and the heart of the wine producing area
of Sicily, before reaching Agrigento and the UNESCO site of the
Valley of Temples. The visit of these ancient Greek temples at
sunset will remain with you for a long time.

Day
4:
It will be an intense day of riding all the way to Siracusa. On
the way we shall visit the extraordinary mosaics of the Roman
Villa del Casale and Caltagirone, the pottery and ceramic capital
of Sicily.

Day
5: you can take a well earned rest in Siracusa and visit this
incredible town, or take a short loop ride to the 3 baroque gems
of Sicily, Ragusa, Modica and Noto. These 3 towns are among the
Hyblean hills which offer spectacular views. This area is
featured in the "Commissario Montalbano" TV series.

Day 6: we leave Siracusa and head for Mongibello. This is how
Sicilians call Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. With
its 3300 meter summit it's quite a sight when we approach it. We
climb up to 2100 meters on some amazing roads through the volcanic
lava fields. We then circum ride Etna on the
East side and reach Taormina by mid afternoon. This will give you some
quality time to visit this exclusive town before dinner.

Day
7: We leave Taormina late morning and cut across the Nebrodi
mountains on the SS120 to reach Cefalù by the evening. We'll have
time to visit the "Sicilian Stonehenge" and the amazing arab/norman cathedral.

Day
8: It's
the final day and Palermo is not far. Some time in Cafalu
will be great and then a short ride along the roads of the Targa
Florio circuit of the Madonie before reaching Palermo in the
evening to board the returning cruise-ferry to Napoli like we did
the Previous Saturday.

Day 9: we
land in Napoli at 7am and head back to Rome where we shall reach
the CIMT HQ by lunch time. After handing back the bikes, you'll
be free to go.
