Grand Tour of
Sicily
1 - 9 April 2023
6 - 14 April 2024
Enjoy this 8 day motorcycle tour of Sicily starting and ending
in Palermo. We run the ride of this magnificent
island anti-clockwise and take our time to explore its
Mediterranean beauty. So much natural and historical beauty
is combined with what is probably the finest Italian cuisine. We
also ride up on the highest active volcano in Europe with its amazing
roads and views, witnessing not only the incredible unstoppable
power of nature, but also the tenacity of the inhabitants which
keep living there.
The Greek temples of Agrigento, the cathedral in Monreale, the
Villa Romana del Casale, Ortigia, and many more sites will add
importance to an amazing motorcycle tour. Reserve your place
now! Only 10 people maximum on the ride.

Day 0
(saturday): reach Palermo and meet the team at our
chosen Hotel within easy reach of the city centre of Palermo.
We'll have an afternoon briefing and finalise the paperwork for
the bikes before an exquisite Sicilian dinner in the heart of
Palermo.

Day
1 (sunday): We exit Palermo and head to Monreale for the visit to its magnificent cathedral.
After the visit we cut through the mountains and reach the very
beautiful Natural Reserve of the Zingaro near San Vito lo Capo. This
is where we will have lunch by the beach (see above) before riding
up to the medieval town
of Erice on the giant hill overlooking the Egadi islands and the
salt plants of Trapani and Mozia. We then ride back down the
twisty road and ride through along the salt plants to reach Marsala for
the night. We stay right by a famous winery and have a last wine
tasting and cellar tour reserved for us. Dinner nearby will also
be in a restaurant serving the same wines you saw being
produced.

Day
2 (monday): We leave Marsala and head inland. We ride
across the Belice valley and the heart of the wine producing area
of Sicily. Before we reach Agrigento, we stop in Gibellina to view
an amazing piece of contemporary art, the Cretto di Burri. It's
a controversial monument to what happened here in 1968. Upon
reaching Agrigento we shall visit the amazing UNESCO site of the
Valley of Temples. The visit of these ancient Greek temples at
sunset will remain with you for a very long time.

Day
3 (tuesday):
It will be an intense day of riding all the way to Siracusa. On
the way there we shall visit the extraordinary Roman
Villa del Casale with its mosaics and Caltagirone, the pottery and ceramic capital
of Sicily. We also ride the spectacular SS124 from Catagirone
to Siracusa. Some really excellent riding.

Day
4 (wednesday): you can take a well earned rest in Siracusa and
visit this incredible town, or take a short loop ride to the 3
baroque gems of Sicily: Ragusa, Modica and Noto. These 3 towns are among the
Hyblean hills which offer spectacular views. This area is
featured in the "Commissario Montalbano" TV series.

Day 5 (thursday): we leave Siracusa and head for "Mongibello". This is how
Sicilians call Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. With
its 3300 meters (and growing) summit it's quite a sight when we approach it. We
climb up to 2100 meters on some amazing roads through volcanic
lava fields. We then circum ride Etna on the
East side and reach Taormina by mid afternoon.

Day
6 (friday): We have a full day in Taormina to visit the
sites and relax. A ride is also planned to the close by village
of Savoca, the location where the "Godfather" movie was shot. We
take a coffee at the Bar Vitelli. A ride to Sella Mandrazzi, an
amazing pass, will also be offered in the afternoon with views
over the Eolian islands and superb cannoli in Novara di
Sicilia.

Day 7 (saturday)
We leave Taormina late morning and cut across the Nebrodi
mountains on the SS120 to reach Cefalù by the evening. We'll have
time to visit the "Sicilian Stonehenge" and the amazing
Arab/Norman cathedral in Cefalu, or go for a swim at the beach,
if your brave enough to face the spring temperatures of the sea.

Day
8 (sunday): Palermo is not far. Some time in Cafalu
will be great and then a short ride along the roads of the Targa
Florio circuit of the Madonie, and a coffee in Corleone before reaching Palermo in the
evening.
