Corsica Motorcycle Tour – day by day

Day 1: Our starting point of this Corsica Motorcycle Tour is in fact on the island of Sardinia in the town of Olbia. Olbia is very well served by an airport, so you don’t have to endure the overnight ferry rides to and from Civitavecchia. We meet at the designated hotel in Olbia. We finalise the paper work, enjoy the welcome dinner, and set off in the morning. Our first stop is the port of Santa Teresa di Gallura to catch the short ferry ride on to Corsica. Less than an hour and we land in Bonifacio.
A visit to the citadelle (old town),  probably for lunch, and then on to exploring this beautiful island. We head north east to Portovecchio and then up to Zonza. We reach the height (1218mt/3996ft) of the Bavella pass and then dive back down to sea level in Solenzara for our first night on the island. 

Day 2: after just a short ride along the coast we head inland and reach Corte, the histrocal and cultural capital of Corsica. We’ll leave the stop in the citadelle until after we’ve ridden the Gorge du Restonica. an incredible gorge in the Corsican alps.
The afternoon will see us riding to St Florent. We shall stay in St Florent two nights in view of the loop ride of the northern peninsula of Corsica, know as the finger. The hotel is right by the beach in an enchanting bay. Dinners will be in the small harbour in town just a 5 minute walk away. 

Day 3: We have a full day to explore the magnificent roads and views of the finger of Corsica. Our itinerary is anticlockwise, so to always have the best views of both the coastline and of the mountains. We explore the little roads, stop in the fishing villages, enjoy lunch by the seafront. A very relaxed and enjoyable day. Our van driver will also join us on the ride on the spare bike. 

Day 4: We say “aurevoir” to St Florent and ride west to Calvi. Amazing coastal roads with incredible quality tarmac and perfect turns in sequence. A real bliss for riding bikes. Again, a short stop at the citadelle of Calvi with lunch at the harbour, and then on to ride the minor roads of the west coast of Corsica. You could stop every 100m to take pictures, and you probably should, as it is so beautiful. For the evening we stop in Porto, a small sea restort at the end of a gorge that dives straight into the sea. Sunsets here are really quite good (see pic) and so is the pizza near the hotel! We stay here 2 nights

Day 5: We rie inland along the Gorge de la Spelonca and over the Col de Vergio, the island’s highest pass at 1478m/4849ft. The D84 runs south of Mount Cinto, the highest peak in Corsica at 2706m. We then ride the Gorge de l’Asco road all the way to the ski resort just below Mount Cinto. This completes the exploration of the alpine part of Corsica and we return to Porto for our second night. 

Day 6: Our next overnight will be in Propriano. We ride along the road of the Calanches but in  Piana we take a very scening ride to a stunning cove. After the small detour, we ride the coastal road all the way to Ajaccio, the busy administrative capital of Corsica. We avoid its traffic by skirting around it. Our lunch stop will be just across the bay from Ajaccio at the perfect seafood restaurant. After lunch we visit the site of Filitosa before reaching Propriano for the night. Filitosa is the most significant pre-historic archaeological site in Corsica.

Day 7: It’s our last day in Corsica. We follow the very sceninc coastal road to Bonifacio and catch the ferry back to Santa Teresa di Gallura. We ride along the roads of the Emerald coast all the way back to Olbia, where we started our trip.
