Description

Via del Sale motorcycle tour

A 5 day tour starting/ending near Turin. We spend 5 full days on the trails of the Maritime Alps covering the Via del Sale, Col du Parpaillon and many other trails.

A fantastic ride on the trails of the southern border between Piedmont, Liguria and France. We ride the famous “Via del Sale”, the salt road but also some other incredible trails such as la Gardetta, Col du Parpaillon, the Napoleonic “cannon way” and many more ways and trails. This tour will leave an ever lasting impression.

Read the day by day info and join us on this amazing ride.

Day 0: Sunday. You should arrive in Pinerolo (near Turin) and reach the tour hotel. We do the final paperwork and after a tour briefing we shall indulge in a fantastic regional dinner.

Day 1: Monday. We tackle the first easy trails heading south to reach the foot hill of Monviso. Monviso is the pyramidal shaped mountain, source of the Po river. In the afternoon we tackle our first major trail, the Napoleonic “Cannon Way”. Up to 2400 meters above sea level we’ll have incredible views of Monviso. We stop for the first night in the Maira valley at the foothill of the Gardetta.

Day 2: Tuesday. Our first ride is the Gardetta loop with Dolomite peaks and spectacular Alpine scenery. After a short transfer of mixed tarmac and gravel, we reach Limone Piemonte, ready for the the BIG ONE, la Via del Sale! That’s why you are here!!

Day 3: Wednesday. It’s a toll road and limited numbered route, so we get there early and enjoy it as much as possible. The views are amazing, the trail conditions excellent, a real feast for the eye to be driven in both directions. We devote the entire morning to this 30km trail. In the afternoon the going gets a little tougher with the final reward of the ride through the enchanted forest of Rezzo. We reach the town of Molini di Triora, just below the town of Triora, known for its witches…

Day 4: Thursday. We head for France over Colle della Melosa and land in La Brigue, home of the Sistine Chaple of the Alps, Notre Dame de la Fontaine. Here you can view this incredible small church with frescos of the life of Christ and Judgement day. Just a small cultural visit never harmed anyone. After lunch in La Brigue we head back to the start of the Via del Sale across the Valley of Marvel, a beautiful trail with waterfalls, pine forests and tunnels. We also visit the amazing fort at the Tenda pass. We finish our day in Pietraporzio on the Col de la Lombarde reaching this town following an old military road which avoids all of the main road traffic.

Day 5:Day 5:Day 5: It’s the final day and highlight of today is the Col du Parpaillon. The pass is higher than Stelvio and of Col de l’Iseran. It connects two beautiful valleys. Just an amazing ride. After lunch we ride minor trails to Guillestre and then tackle the Colle dell’Agnello back into Italy and back to our starting point.
