Langhe and French Alps
A fantastic weekend with
lots of miles and amazing scenery. We start in the Langhe and then head
for Haute Provence.
The Langhe area of
Piedmont is famous for 3 things: 1) the white Truffle of Alba which is
world class, 2) The wine (ever heard of BAROLO and BARBARESCO?) 3) Hazelnuts. Anyone heard of NUTELLA?
Well here it was invented! For any chocolate lover this is a once in a
life time pilgrimage!
We start our ride in
Milan as usual at 2pm in our Milan office on Friday. It is a first
highway stint till we reach Alba. We then ride a very nice loop (90km
worth of twisties) of the main Langhe area before stopping for the night in
Alba. We shall enjoy the red Piedmontese wines and sample some exquisite
On Saturday we
head for the French Maritime Alps from Cuneo along the Col di Tenda
(through the tunnel) and then reach Barcelonnette over the Col de Turini
(a classic of the Montecarlo Rally) and Col de la Bonnette.
dedicated to a fantastic loop ride to the Gorges du Verdon over the Col
d'Allos and back through the Gorges de Daluis and Col de la Cayolle
On Monday we
return to Milan but we still have 3 passes to do before we take the fast
A4 back to Milan. We shall do in sequence Col de Vars, Col d'Izoard
(absolutely amazing scenery!) and the Col de Mongenevre. We should be back
in Milan by 3pm (340km)
