This is part 2 of your Alpine essential riding. A must in every rider's life. The scenery and the roads are amazing. The passes are high and you are on the mountains rather than looking at them from a distance. Starting and ending in Milan, we picked what we believe are the roads that if you were to come just once in your life time to the Alps you really would not want to miss! In the second part still riding out of Milan, we ride from East to West. We start with lakes Iseo and Garda and then spend 3 days in the Dolomites. This area is so absolutely amazing that 3 days is the bare minimum. We then make our way back to Milan via the Stelvio pass, Engadine and Lake Como.
Touring programme day by day: Day 1: we start, as always on our 7 day tours on Sunday and we take advantage of an early start to beat traffic on the A4 highway. After this quick sprint on the highway (approximately 30min), we exit just passed Bergamo and aim for Lake Iseo and lake Idro over the Maniva pass. Once we pass Storo we enter the enchanting Ledro lake valley and reach our first stopover at the northern tip of Lake Garda in Riva del Garda. Day 2: we head straight north to the Brenta Group by lake Molveno. We then cut across the Brenner Valley and head straight for the Dolomites. Our base will be in Corvara in Badia for the next 3 nights. Our hotel is the best in town and offers us a great deal with dinner included with fantastic food. So exceptionally we will have dinner included for these 3 nights. Day 3: explore every pass of this fascinating region, visit Cortina, take some of the many cable cars to the top of the peaks and enjoy amazing views in any direction. Your guide will be happy to hand out some detailed maps of the region and explore some of the rides with you. Ride a lot or ride just for few hours and relax and soak up the atmosphere. Day 4: from Corvara we ride a loop to the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, one of the landmarks in Alpine riding on par with the Stelvio. An absolute must when around these parts. It is a full day and it is interchangeable with Day 3. Day 5: sadly we say good-bye to the Dolomites and start our trip back west. Truthfully there really shouldn't be anything to be sad abut. What lies ahead of us may not have the magic of the Dolomites, but certainly has a stunning beauty of its own. Today in sequence we shall ride the Jaufenpass and the Timmelsjoch. This last one is the border with Austria. Once we reach the top and the pay toll, we make a U-turn (without paying) and head back south to Merano. Our aim now is the 60 switchbacks of the Stelvio pass with its 2757 meters above sea level. Once we climb back down on the Bormio side we reach Livigno for our next double night stay. Livigno enjoys a Duty free status and it's an excellent place to fil up your bikes. Day 6: Livigno is an excellent location to visit world famous St Moritz, to explore Engadin and the Grison mountain passes, like the Julier, the Fluela and Albula passes. You also have another chance to do Stelvio or explore the more flowing roads like the Ofenpass and Reschenpass. Day 7: Last day of the tour. We descend to lake Como via the Maloyapass back into Italy. In Chiavenna you have the chance to do a one-way and back stint up the Splugenpass before we gather at 3pm in Mandello del Lario to visit the Moto Guzzi factory museum. Once the visit is over at 4pm we make our way to Bellagio and then Como before we reach our starting point outside of Milan.
